Professional Abilities & Qualifications
I have four years of experience teaching American History, Geography, and World History to middle school and high school students, and additional four years of experience as afterschool counselor and summer camp counselor to middle school students. I have a Bachelors of Urban and Regional Planning Degree. I have over ten years working as fulltime administrative assistant or paid intern for City, County, State, Small Business, and Corporate organization. I passed the State of Florida Department of Education Middle Grades Social Science Exam, the Florida General Knowledge Exam, and the Professional Education Exam.
I am dedicated to teaching social studies to students. I use a variety of methods to teach about history, civics, geography, government, and economics. I use both student centered and teacher center methods such as individual, group, pairs, and whole group settings. I believe in giving students something to do not something to learn. I give them a variety of different projects and activities about the lesson to keep them engage in the learning process. I use differentiated lesson to reach all students such as using maps, graphic organizers, Cornell notes, readers theaters, word walls, audio books, and closed captions during 5 minute films about history. I use traditional assessments, essay assessments, formal assessments, and informal assessments to monitor the students learning.
Planning, classroom management, and consistency are the skills I believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher. Planning lessons, projects, assignments, and rules for students creates a structured class environment for students to learn and behave in a positive environment. Managing the classroom by having a routine method to collect assignments and to transition quickly to activities effectively manages a group of students. Having consistent rules, rewards and class routines creates a positive learning environment for students to learn. Teachers that are organized, use effect classroom management techniques, and consistent in applying rules are skilled to be outstanding teachers.
I would plan effectively to address a wide range of skills and abilities in the classroom. I would plan lessons that cover a wide range of skills and abilities. I would utilize differentiated instructions to target all students by using graphic organizers, videos, textbooks, audio books, current events, reading strategies, a PowerPoint, or online activities to target students. I am passionate and dedicated to teaching. I would add character education to my lessons and use positive behavior reinforcement in my classroom.
